The issue of small scale agriculture and agri-business development is of uppermost importance. The high demand for food and bio fuels in the world has led to increasing food prices, which affect especially the poorest, who are unable to produce food for themselves. On the other hand, the price increases can also stimulate agricultural production as long as supply constraints are addressed and value chains from ‘soil to table’ work smoothly.
For small enterprises (SMEs) involved in Pineapple chains in Uganda, Business Development Services may offer one means for overcoming some of these limitations and for creating globally integrated value chains.
Four working groups have been formed to develop possible public-private partnership projects. The focus areas are Production, Value addition/Processing, Marketing and Research (See Workshop Programme attached). The groups are expected to address specific issues in the selected area that will be addressed to upgrade/improve the pineapple value chain.
